Evidence-Based Therapy and Intervention

The psychologists and specialists at TPACenter are trained in a variety of evidence-based modalities for therapy and intervention. Our psychologists each specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure-Response Prevention (ERP), Trauma Focused CBT (TF-CBT), parent training, and executive function coaching for kids, adolescents, and young adults. Our professionals have decades of experience delivering person-centered care, so though our treatments have solid science to back them, there is no cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all approach. We are completely individualized in our approaches, and take the time to build relationships with our patients.  From a working relationship centered on mutual respect and trust, we collaborate on goals of treatment, and together build a plan for how to get there. With regular check-ins and progress monitoring, we are able to assess the progress being made on the goals we identify.

Talk therapy can generally be accomplished with even young children, but our psychologists may utilize play-based or game activities as a bridge to help little ones access the skills that we are introducing. These activities can also help them get to know children and teens, who may be reluctant at first to engage. Rapport building and respect are at the cornerstones of what our providers do within the context of therapy or intervention.  Having specific training in systems of psychology, the professionals at TPACenter understand that our patients are individuals imbedded within several systems, so we strive to understand the larger contexts of their challenges and what brings them to therapy, or what may serve as a barrier to seeking therapy services. We are also trauma-informed and share a multicultural lens when conceptualizing our work with patients and families.  We believe that every person has inherent worth and is worthy of respect for their experience. Behaviors that are problematic in certain contexts evolved from a person doing their best to cope with a situation--what once served them well is no longer serving them, so approaching treatment in that lens allows us to accept the person, just as they are, while also striving to build up new patterns of thinking and being that will create lasting change.
